It would not be a bad idea to set goals. The idea is to get them out of their comfort zone and then set a benchmark for themselves along with the organization that they are part of.

Give them an idea

It would be better if you could sit across with your employees and explain to them on what are your expectations out of them. They would need to understand your working style along with pressure points as well. When they are aware of your working style the chances of miscommunication or misunderstanding is going to be reduced to a bare minimum.
