What strategic human resource management means?

In the domain of human resource you would come across the term strategic human resource management. Many expensive books have been on the shelves but you need to understand what exactly it is and how does it differ from the traditional human resource management.

In simple terms it is a branch of human resource management. It is a new field that has emerged out of the parent body of human resource. It can be defined as linking of human resources with the strategic goals of the organization. It improves productivity along with organizational efficiency. From a company point of view it means involving and accepting the HR function, as a strategic partner in the implementation along with the formulation of the strategies of the company. It does include all the basic Human resource activities like recruitment, or rewarding employees.

In the last few years there has been a widespread view that Human resource was an island in itself and it worked on the values of people and it differed from the real world of business. In order to be strategically involved, the HR needs to align with the functions of an organization and hence this branch of strategic human resource management came into existence. It focuses on human resource programs with the long term objectives of the business in mind. Their main objective is to improve the performance of the business by overcoming the obstacles which the workers face. Communication helps this to a great extent.
